UPDATE March 31, 2026:  Notice is hereby given that no municipal election will be held on April 25, 2026, in Hartly, Delaware.

The filing deadline of March 27, 2026, for the Town of Hartly Council has passed.  There were two (2) volunteer council positions, two-year term, open this year; however, the two incumbents were unopposed.

There are two (2) volunteer council positions, two-year term, open this year.  The Public Notice for Solicitation of Candidates is posted in the Hartly Post Office or navigate to Government / Elections page on this website for additional information and instructions for filing.

Review and follow the Procedure for filing, found on the “Public Notice for Solicitation of Candidates.”

Both the Town of Hartly Candidate Filing Form and the Certification of Intention Form must be completed and submitted to the Town of Hartly by the Deadline for Candidate filings date.

The following are dates of importance:

  • March 27, 2026 (5:00 PM) – Deadline for Candidate Filings
  • April 01, 2026 – Public Notice of the Candidates, residential voting place, date, and time. (or Election Cancellation Notice when appropriate)
  • April 25, 2026 – Date of Election (if warranted)

It is with immense pride and excitement that the Hartly Town Council introduces the inaugural Chief of Police for the Town of Hartly, Torrie James. Chief James joins us with an impressive level of expertise in law enforcement, having dedicated many years to the Smyrna Police Department, where he ultimately held the position of Chief. His extensive experience and dedication to public service make him an invaluable asset to our town as we embark on this new chapter in law enforcement.

Community members and officials gathered to witness this historic moment, reflecting the collective hope for a safer Hartly. As Chief James assumes his role, there is great excitement about the collaborative efforts ahead to enhance safety and well-being for all residents. On April 10, 2025, at the Town of Hartly Public Meeting, Ordinance #01-01-2025-0001 An Ordinance of the Town of Hartly Approving the Revision of the Town of Hartly Property Tax Rate was adopted.

Ordinance #13-02-2025-0001 Banning Marijuana Establishments in the Town of Hartly

On April 10, 2025, at the Town of Hartly Public Meeting, Ordiance #13-02-2025-0001 Banning Marijuana Establishments in the Town of Hartly was adopted.  

SYNOPSIS: This ordinance prohibits marijuana cultivation facilities or cultivation facilities, marijuana product manufacturing facilities, marijuana testing facilities, and/or retail marijuana stores from being established or otherwise located in the Town of Hartly.  This ordinance establishes penalties for violations of the ordinance.

Delmarva Power Responds to High Bill Complaints

Many Delmarva Power residents have been shocked to see a spike in their electric bills.  Delmarva Power is taking the following steps to help customers:

  • No late payment fees for January and February 2025 and providing longer periods for repayment, up to 24 months
  • Suspending disconnections for nonpayment in February 2025
  • Waiving deposits for disconnected customers who are seeking to restore service

Public Notice: Town of Hartly Election Cancelled

Notice is hereby given, there will be no municipal Election held for the Town of Hartly on April 26, 2025.

There were 3 positions open. The incumbents were unopposed.

The next Public meeting is April 10, 2025 @ 7PM at the Hartly Volunteer Fire Company.

You do not need to reside within Town limits to attend these public meetings.  We encourage all individuals residing in the area to attend.

CANCELLED – DECEMBER 12TH 2024 PUBLIC MEETING CANCELLED

The December 12, 2024, public town meeting has been Cancelled due to a scheduling conflict.  
 
Please come join us for the Town’s Annual Tree Lighting scheduled for Saturday 12/14/2024 at 5:15PM.  
Following that we will be at the Christmas on Main til 8PM.  
Please consider coming together and enjoying an evening with others in our community.

UPDATE: Public Meeting Moved to Thursday, October 17, 2024

The upcoming October public town meeting has been rescheduled to October 17th at 7pm.  It will be held at the Hartly Volunteer Fire Company,  2898 Aurthersville Rd. Hartly,  DE 19953.  The previous date of October 10th is canceled due to a scheduling conflict. 

 

Everyone is Welcome, you do not need to live in “town limits” to attend Town meetings.  All Town meetings are held at the Hartly Volunteer Fire Company, 2898 Arthursville Road, Hartly; and begin at 7:00 PM.
